If you’ve picked up Boating Magazine lately, or any one of today’s major
publications dedicated to boating, chances are you’ll be viewing a front
cover image shot by Forest Johnson. Over the life of his career, Forest
has taken close to 1500 magazine covers, including every cover on Boating
Magazine for well over a decade. His images appear regularly in coffee
table books and calendars. Notable accomplishments also include countless
high profile ads and brochures seen throughout the world.
In a recent feature article on Forest in Popular Photography & Imaging magazine, you'll find him recognized as a true Specialist in his field.
Based in South Florida, Forest has built on his lifetime passion for boats and
the sea to become one of the world’s pre-eminent marine photographers - specializing
in location and aerial photography. As the son of a famous boatbuilder, Forest E.
Johnson, that passion was instilled at an early age. Coupled with a desire for
flying – his achievements are without equal. So much, in fact, he’s renowned for
his ability to bring to life not only the style and beauty of a boat, but the life
of boating.
Years of Experience with Boats Reflects in Forest's Photographic Expertise...
He accomplishes such memorable work thanks to his skills in
organization, preparation and talent casting, combined with
an eye for capturing the beauty and overall essence of a vessel.
Forest’s carefully crafted shots are often choreographed from
aboard a helicopter, utilizing all digital equipment to capture
his images.
He is as sought after by boat manufacturers as he is by marketers of
today’s most desirable boats due to his outstanding professionalism
and skill at always ‘getting the shot’ . . . whether it’s capturing
high speed action or the serenity of a lifestyle image. Forest is
also one of the most awarded marine photographers, earning accolades
for numerous Addy Awards as well as being presented with the prestigious
Casique Award – recognizing him as Photographer of the Year for the
entire chain of Bahamas Islands.
Forest is a longstanding member of the NMMA (National Marine Manufacturers
Association) and ASMP (American Society of Media Photographers) as well
as the APA (Advertising Photographers of America) and the BWI (Boat Writers
International). He is also well-known for his charitable work with the Boys
& Girls Clubs of Broward County's annual Island Hop Cruise and Fisher Island Rendezvous.
